Wow, sorry about the lack of updates this last month. It's been pretty hectic here. Don't worry though, I'm still hard at work and ramping the Finger Server up to version 1.0. The next update will contain a few nice additions, one being that the user can now change his or her password without the administrator's intervention. Of course, this can be disabled if needed.

I've added several new web sites to the Who Is Using It? section. Be sure to check out what other sites are doing design wise.

Thanks to the hard work by Kornel Kiss, we now have a French translation of the installation instructions! If any other of you industrious people would like to translate the installation instructions to another language, by all means, please drop me a line.

I just noticed that the FAQ stated that the Finger Server does not run on Windows NT. Early versions were not NT friendly, hence the FAQ entry, but the current version should work great on any NT box. As a matter of fact, I'm very interested in hearing any feedback concerning usability and performance on NT boxes.

Documentation Update: I just finished a piece of the installation documentation. It explains how to display a list of the latest additions to the Finger Server on your home page and links directly to them. It's pretty easy to setup and it helps make your Finger Server more visible to casual viewers. Here is an example of the output:

Latest Plans:
danbeck 06/11
razor 06/10

Oops... there was a small glitch with the Unix archive. Sendmail.pm was archived as sendmail.pm and caused the admin.cgi script to die. Anyone using the Unix version, should download the archive again, and copy Sendmail.pm over your existing sendmail.pm. Sorry for the mistake folks.

The main distribution is almost out of the alpha stage and ready for beta testing. In the coming weeks, I'll be finishing up some loose ends and putting together a complete distribution with instructions, etc. As of now, the scripts only run on a Unix server, but I'll be incorporating Windows NT support into the script before version 1.0 is out for sure.  -  fingermaster

The Finger Server web site is now online. Some of the areas are empty, but I'll be filling in the blanks before the week is out. Don't you hate under-construction web sites?
